Yesterday was not fun – it was the closing of a very
significant chapter in my life. I
shipped my last 15 boxes, gave the landlord my key, took one last look around my
empty room, and headed north to the Denver airport – away from Colorado
Springs.
Four of us made the journey (Amber, Ellie, Janae and myself)
I found it hard to speak, and wanted to throw up the entire ride. It was starting to sink in that I was
really leaving for good. As
much as I love and will miss Colorado, it’s the people I left behind that made
my heart feel like someone had reached in and started squeezing as hard as they
could. Never in my life have I known
such TRUE and WONDERFUL friends, or had such incredible Christian community –
it was definitely something special.
As tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably, the three of them each
prayed for me in the car on the drive up.
At the airport we hugged, cried, said goodbye, cried some more, hugged
some more, and finally had to go our separate ways.
A few hours later, I stepped off the plane in New
Orleans. That’s when it hit me – I
was back, and not just to visit.
My mind was going a million miles per hour and my churning stomach was
trying to keep up. My sweet mom
was there to pick me up and we headed back to Petal.
It was a surreal feeling, knowing that my time in Colorado
was over. But even through the
tears, goodbyes, aching heart, and upset stomach – I had peace that it was the
right decision. I knew that I was
supposed to be back in Mississippi.
So here I am…back in the deep, deep south! It’s funny, multiple times I’ve tearfully
left Petal behind to start a new journey, not knowing if or when I would return. But the Lord has brought me back and is
ready to begin this new season.
It’s so exciting to know that your life is in front of you and the
possibilities are endless. All
weekend I’ve been singing the song that inspired the title of this blog – the
theme song from Saved by the Bell College Years! The lyrics...
I'm standing at the edge of tomorrow
And it's all up to me how far I go
I'm standing at the edge of tomorrow
I've never seen such a view before
A new world before my eyes
So much for me to explore
It's where my future lies
today I'm standing at the edge of tomorrow
From here the future looks bright for me
And it's all up to me how far I go
It's my time to break away
I'm standing at the edge of tomorrow
Today.
ugg, cried while reading this. i miss you. i can't believe this season is ending for both of us, and we're starting new ones in places we weren't sure we'd ever get back to. i love you.
